Renewable Energy
Exploration of opportunities in the renewable energy area could be huge for the area. We have access to corn via Brokaw Corn Storage in order to incent an ethanol producer to locate here. Other sources of biomass such as wood products, the paper production process, and agricultural byproducts have potential to create new business opportunities for the area. Perhaps a company that specializes in manufacturing process control equipment, fiberglass and stainless tanks and other associated equipment used in the renewable energy busines could expand their business here? The renewable energy movement is a natural fit for this area in that we have the right labor force, skill set, education system, and raw materials to be competitive.

Borrowed Bikes
You would place bike racks around the area which would house multiple bicycles painted a certain color. If you see those bikes in the rack, you are welcome to take the bike and ride it to your destination as long as you return it to the next borrowed bike rack. Madison public transit uses this basic structure and people love it.

Climbing Gym/Wall
There are indoor climbing gyms in St. Paul, Madison, and Appleton, but I don't know of anything closer. This idea can range from a simple climbing wall for a small investment all the way up to a full service climbing facility offering a full line of indoor and outdoor lessons, youth programs, group events and experiential programs for corporate and non-profit groups. A complete pro-shop could make fulfilling all your climbing needs affordable and convenient. Membership can be set up to generate more revenue and offer discounts. We could also offer weight equipment, showers, lockers and year round climate control. This is a great recreational idea to help keep the younger generations excited about Wis Rapids. The skateboard park is a nice start, but that only appeals to a certain group. We need many more activities for younger folks in order to keep them in the area upon graduation from MSTC or UWSP. Far too often we lose the youth of this area, never to return. Quality of life is something we have to address and this is one way to do it.
